ALEXANDR POGOSIAN, Mural Artist

Alexandr Pogosian pursued his passion for art by attending the Abramstevskoe Art School outside Moscow. Upon completing his studies there, he was invited to enroll in Russia’s most prestigious graduate art school, The St. Petersburg Academy of Art, where he ranked at the top of his class. He was invited to join the faculty of the Academy’s Repin Institute of Painting at his graduation.

Since the establishment of the Russian Federation in the early 1990s, Alexandr Pogosian has emerged as one of Russia’s leading young painters and muralists, creating works for some of Russia’s most prestigious buildings and churches. He is a member of the Russian Union of Artists and, over the past ten years his work has been displayed in shows throughout the world, including exhibits in France, China, Russia, and the United States. As a result of a celebrated show in 1999, a book of his works will soon to be published in China.

Recently he has specialized in collaborations with architects and restoration specialists to restore some of his country's most beautiful and ancient churches back to their original splendor after years of neglect, decay and abuse under Soviet rule. Among his most recent achievements, a mural depicting the life of Saint Peter in one of Moscow’s largest churches, Christ the Savior.


Pogosian's artwork is part of the permanent collection of a number of private galleries and museums in Europe and Asia.
