VLADIMIR SHPITALNIK, Designer

Vladimir Shpitalnik is the Artistic Designer for Alliance TCC. Capitalizing on his natural ability and extensive experience, he has established himself as a world renowned artist in interior, exterior, set and costume design. His design work, along with his paintings and illustrations, can be seen across the United States, Europe and Asia.

Vladimir first collaborated with the members of Alliance TCC in 1996 as the resident designer for the Oakdale Theatre project. Working with a tight budget and an aggressive time frame, Vladimir’s task was to create a space which would project the feeling of a show within a show, bringing his creativity directly to the audience. He utilized his talent to create a unique theatre ambiance which has received countless accolades. From the seating to the carpeting and lighting concepts, to the moveable wall partitions, his involvement has made the Oakdale Theatre one of the most unique and efficient event facilities in the country.

Each year, Vladimir’s environmental art adorns the New Haven Green in Connecticut as part of the city’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas. In addition to the Oakdale project, he has created interior designs for some of Connecticut’s best-known entertainment centers, including the Meadows Music Amphitheatre in Hartford, and the Madison Art Cinema.
As an architectural illustrator, Vladimir has collaborated on numerous projects with Kevin Roche and colleagues at Roche, Dinkeloo and Associates. Vladimir’s watercolor and oil paintings have been exhibited in shows throughout Connecticut and New York as well as in Russia, the Czech Republic and Japan.

Vladimir’s Off-Broadway theatrical credits include set design for Coming Through and Offerings at American Place Theatre and set and costume design for First Show / Egorushka at SoHo Rep. Other regional dance and theater credits include set and costume design for the Joffrey Ballet, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Stage One Theatre, New Harmony Theatre, Lyman Center for the Performing Arts, Seacoast Rep. Voice and Vision Theatre, Yale Cabaret, Yale School of Drama, New Haven Ballet, and the Chancel Opera Company. International credits include the Moscow Art Theatre Studio, Kazan Theater for Youth, Yermolova Theater, and Gorky Cinema Studio. Vladimir has served as art director for two independent films. Book illustration credits include three children’s books for Random House/Knopf as well as commercial illustrations for first USA Visa Card’s Yale University series.

Vladimir is a faculty member at Paier School of Art and Southern Connecticut State University. Professional memberships include the Society of Illustrators, United Scenic Artists, and ASSITEJ. Vladimir holds MFA degrees from the Yale School of Drama and the Moscow Art Theatre School, and a B.A. (equiv.) from the Abramtsevskoe Art School in Russia.
In 1997, he was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts/Theatre Communication Group’s Designer Fellowship.
